Viewers were left divided last night when the first episode of Paddy McGuinness' new TV show Tempting Fortune aired on Channel 4.

The game show sees the Bolton presenter host 12 contestants embarking on a gruelling 18-day trek across South Africa’s Eastern Cape.

The strangers are given basic survival gear - water supplies, maps, camping equipment and basic food.

Contestants have the chance to win £300,000 but are tempted with luxuries along the way that will be deducted from their potential winnings.

With the contestants eating only rice and beans at 1000 calories a day, the conflict has already started.

Last night graphic designer Lani went against the group and bought a £500 milkshake, knocking it off their £300,000 prize pot.

The Bolton News:

Lani said she went onto the show knowing she would take some luxuries along the way.

She said: “I feel like if you can have a good time, have a little treat but still take something home I think it’s a win-win.”

The group - and the public - appeared to be divided by her decision.

Campmate Caroline said: “Her rationale is quite understandable. She doesn’t need the £25k she wants the full experience, so she’d be happy to take £20k, so that gives you £5,000 to spend. That’s got into my mind set now.”

Some viewers predict trouble ahead...

But others are enjoying Lani's antics already...

Paddy says there is even more in store on tonight's episode...

The show is on every Sunday and Monday night at 9pm on Channel 4 and All 4.
