Three Lancashire gastropubs have been named among the top 50 in the UK by Big 7 Travel.

Parkers Arms, The Assheton Arms, Freemasons at Wiswell, all in the Ribble Valley, were recognised in the list.

Parkers Arms, in Newton-in-Bowland

This dog-friendly gastropub was praised for its menu and its atmosphere.

Big 7 Travel said: “Parkers Arms excels with a menu of modern British food using the finest regional produce, ranging from classic and homely Sunday lunch with crispy roast potatoes and all the trimmings to a showstopper of charcoal-grilled mutton rib.

“They’re also dog-friendly, and the atmosphere is always electric with people enjoying the food.”

Parkers Arms was ranked in 8th place in the list.

The Lancashire gastropub has a rating of 4 on Tripadvisor with reviews praising its food and service.

One reviewer said: “Oh my, a truly delicious lunch at the Parkers Arms. Melt in the mouth soused herring to start followed by whole brill cooked to perfection and a velvety chocolate pudding and cream to finish. Goodness what a treat. Lovely friendly welcome from staff and great service throughout the meal.
“Just cant fault it.”

The Assheton Arms, in Downham, near Clitheroe

This gastropub is known for its seafood and offers 12 guest bedrooms for customers who would like to extend their stay.

The Assheton Arms was ranked in 28th place in the list.

One reviewer said: “Fabulous! Our stay was on the 7th night after re-opening on 10th February. The food was excellent. The team (some still being trained) were very efficient and helpful. The rooms are very high standard. Great for a date night treat/birthday ...any occasion!”

Freemasons at Wiswell

This gastropub in Clitheroe has been praised for its “warm atmosphere” as well as its selection of fine wines.

Big 7 Travel said: “Make a beeline for Freemasons in Clitheroe if you like a pub with a warm atmosphere, real ales, fine wines, and exceptionally well-thought-out dishes.

“The menu evolves with the seasons – winter dishes include glazed ox cheek with pickled celeriac, Manx lobster, and a mouth-watering duck served with Yakitori liver on toast and hispi cabbage. As you can see, this is no ordinary pub grub.”
