A GROUP of neighbours is celebrating after Bolton Council agreed to act over trees which are blighting their road.

Homeowners in Adelaide Street, Daubhill, say they have been asking for years for the 40ft-high trees to be cut back.

The Bolton News reported on May 28 that leaves were littering the street and blocking gutters and drains. The trees were also blocking out light from properties.

Now Bolton Council has agreed to tackle the problem.

The neighbours have received a letter from Rumworth ward councillor, Ebrahim Adia, explaining what the council will do.

He says: "We are going to remove some of the poplar trees and thin out some of the other trees.

"This will be done to make sure the problems the residents are facing don't continue."

Roy Meanley, aged 54, said: "We all feel great and are happy the trees are coming down. We have asked for action before so we believe it is down to the involvement of The Bolton News."
