An appeal has been lodged against a decision by the council to reject plans for a home extension to be built.

Plans were put forward in August last year to add to the ground and first floor of a home on Milverton Close, Lostock.

The plans were to add one bedroom to the first floor with the extension of a second bedroom above where there is currently a garage.

However the proposals were rejected by the planning department earlier this month.

Officers deemed the plans unacceptable for a range of reasons.

These included that the street was a cul-de-sac consisting of detached houses and bungalows and the house in question was “visually prominent within the street".

They said the plans breached Bolton’s Core Strategy to “conserve and enhance local distinctiveness” as well as to be “compatible with the surrounding area.”

The plans would have involved around 5.3m of extension above the existing garage.

Officers said: “This would appear disproportionate to the host property in regard to scale and massing.

“The two-storey massing of the front extension is not compatible with the bungalow appearance of the host dwelling and would appear incongruous within the street scene.

"The proposal would result in a significant addition to the front of the subject dwelling that would dominate the front of the bungalow and is therefore not considered a subordinate addition.

"This is emphasised by the proposal being at the front of the property, appearing more visually prominent from vantage points along Milverton Close."

The decision from the council said it would “harm the character and visual amenity of the surroundings” and said the applicants had not provided drawings that were accurate to scale.

But now an appeal against the decision of the council has been launched.

The process will go ahead by written representation.
