Police are investigating the cause of a bin fire in Bolton.

Firefighters were called to Mary Seacole House in Westhoughton just before 2.50pm this afternoon, Wednesday, March 30.

A bin was on fire in a flat at the building.

No one was harmed, although one person was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Watch manager Lewis Cross of Atherton Fire Station said: “There was a flat fire at Mary Seacole House in Westhoughton.

“There was a bin fire in one of the flats on the ground floor. One person was assisted from the property.

“They didn’t suffer any injuries but were taken to Royal Bolton Hospital for a precautionary check.

“The cause of the fire is part of a police investigation.”

Watch Manager Cross confirmed that there was no damage to the building.

He added that three fire engines attended the scene, one each from Atherton, Hindley and Farnworth fire stations.
