A road in Bolton has been closed due to a crash which has left two men in hospital.

Chorley New Road in Lostock, next to Beaumont Road, has been shut after a crash happened at around 2.50pm today, Saturday.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash.

Firefighters cut one man from one of the vehicles and another man self-rescued himself before crews arrived.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At approximately 2.50pm on Saturday, April 1, firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles at the junction of Beaumont Road and Chorley New Road, in Bolton.

“Two fire engines from Bolton Central station, alongside the technical response unit from Leigh, quickly attended the scene.

“Firefighters extricated a man from one of the vehicles using specialist cutting equipment.

"Another man self-rescued before fire crews arrived at the scene. Both casualties were transferred to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service and were conveyed to hospital by ambulance.

“Firefighters were in attendance for around one hour.”

Photos shared on social media show emergency services including firefighters, police, and the ambulance service in attendance.

One bus user said before they were "stuck waiting on the bus and can't get through" as a result of the incident.

Traffic is building and the road has been closed by police so drivers should take an alternative route to avoid delays.
