A primary school has turned around its fortunes to be graded good.

Castle Hill Primary School in Tonge Moor had been placed in the 'requires improvement' category in 2019.

Now following an Ofsted inspection it has been graded as good.

Inspectors found that children feel safe in the school and become "keen, confident learners" with pupils enjoying lessons.

The school was rated as good in all areas.

Ofsted inspectors stated: "Relationships between pupils and staff are very positive, respectful and trusting. Pupils, parents and carers, and staff see these behaviours modelled very well by senior leaders. This sets a positive tone for pupils and the whole school community to follow.

"The whole school is calm, including in the larger, shared learning areas."

They added: "Pupils enjoy their lessons. Most of the time, they learn successfully. This is because of leaders’ high expectations and staff’s skilful work. Pupils, including those with SEND, mostly achieve well in different curriculum subjects. They develop a thirst for learning even more.

"Pupils enjoy a wide range of extra learning opportunities. They gain extra skills from activities that leaders provide, such as chess, choir, drama and sports.

"Leaders have designed and developed an ambitious curriculum that inspires pupils."

Teachers thoughtfully set out books in library areas for pupils to access for Pupils’ behaviour in lessons and around the school was described as exemplary, allowing staff to focus on teaching.

Ofsted reported: "Pupils who need extra support with managing their feelings or behaviour are well supported by leaders and staff. Nevertheless, some pupils do not attend school as often as they should. Leaders are addressing this issue with determination and clarity. Pupils’ attendance is improving well."

Staff were said to be very positive about leaders’ support for their well-being and workload.

The report stated: " Leaders use experts prudently from outside the school to review and refine their work. Leaders have a clear understanding of what the school does well and where even more can be achieved."

The headteacher for the school, Andy Renwick said: “Myself and the team are absolutely delighted with the outcome and pleased that all the hard work over the past few years has been recognised.

“I am really pleased for our families and children, and proud that they go to a good school.

“We are here for the good of the community and the children.”

He was particularly proud of the comment stating that pupil’s behaviour was “exemplary”, which he says, “happens on a daily basis”.
