The pub is also praised on Tripadvisor with a 4.5 star rating on the reviewing website.

One reviewer wrote: “Really great spot here, I’m a big fan. The beer garden has a lovely atmosphere and you don’t feel kind your sat at the side of a busy road at all. Nice staff and fellow punters. Plus a great choice of beers for those who like.”

Another said: “It is longer than I care to think that we have been visiting this excellent pub and it is as good as ever now. Nicely located on the edge of the northern Quarter. It is an atmospheric place and has an awful lot going for it.

“The staff are very helpful indeed, and helped us all select a beer that was of our type.

“They will let you taste them if necessary, which means you can’t go wrong really.

“It was late on a Thursday afternoon we popped in and it was nicely busy. The service was prompt and friendly and we enjoyed our time there.

“It has several rooms within it, so this keeps it cosy and it won’t be long before our next visit.”

Awards ceremony to take place in June

Pub and bar operators who have been named County Winners have been told of their successes and now have to wait for a ceremony to take place to find out who will take home a Regional title as well as who will be named the UK’s best, leaving with the overall National Pub & Bar of the Year award.

Entries for the awards opened at the start of the year and the ceremony will take place in London on June 28.

“We were overwhelmed by the level and quality of entries this year,” says Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine, which runs the awards.

“It just goes to show what magnificent work is going on across the UK hospitality sector. With outrageous energy costs, recruitment shortages and a punishing taxation system, these businesses are once again facing tough times. Now, more than ever, it’s vital that people support their local pubs and bars. So, ahead of the long Easter weekend, why not check out the finest in your county?”

The grand final will see more awards handed out including the Pub Brand of the Year, Bar Brand of the Year, Pub Chef of the Year and Sustainable Pub & Bar of the Year.

The 15 Regional Winners will be announced ahead of the National Pub & Bar of the Year winner which was won by Cheltenham’s The Frogmill in 2022.
