With the weather forecast to warmer than some parts of Turkey across areas of the North West today, families may want to enjoy some bank holiday sunshine at a nearby beach.

Here is a list of five top beaches for children and families in the North West.

St Annes, Lytham

The beach at St Annes is much loved by families across the region with hundreds flocking to the popular destination when the weather is nice.

There is plenty of clean sand for little ones to build fantastic sandcastles and there are a number of great fish and chip shops close by to enjoy for lunch.

There is also a pier which offers classic arcade games, amusements and toilet facilities.

The sand is flat, so the sea stays far out meaning there is plenty of sand to enjoy and the tide is lovely and low when it is in, if the children would like to paddle.

There is plenty of parking which is pay and display allowing visitors to choose between purchasing a physical ticket or a ticket through an app on your phone.

Southport

While the tides are rather far out at Southport, the beaches are great for a family walk or picnic during the day.

And the expanse of sand means children can build sandcastles all day long without the worry of the sea washing it all away.

A short distance away from Southport Beach is Southport Pleasureland, offering rides and amusements for all the family to enjoy.

Open 11am to 5pm this weekend, its perfect for the family after a morning playing on the beach.

Families with children will also love Ainsdale as it is accessible and easy to locate, just a short drive down the coast from Southport.

Morecambe Beach

Or why not head to Morecambe, which is another popular spot among residents in the North West.

Morecambe has one of the finest views from its promenade and the seaside town is perfect for a family day out with shops and nice eateries for a meal this Easter.

Although parts of the beach are muddy, south Morecambe beach is great for children as there is plenty of sand to play with.

Why not grab an ice cream and continue the fun at Happy Mount Park which has family friendly attractions such as mini-golf, trampolines, a miniature train and more.

Formby Beach, Liverpool

Another firm favourite among residents in the North West is Formby Beach.

A National Trust site boasting miles of beautiful sands, sand dunes and nature walks, Formby is a great destination for a family day out.

Located in a quiet area, but rather busy at peak times, visitors can also take part in a walk which is two miles long.

Blackpool

Blackpool is a firm favourite among residents in the North West who want a great family day out when the weather is beautiful.

Why not head to Blackpool and relax in the sun while the children play in the sand.

Blackpool is the only beach resort which is home to three piers offering great fun for all the family with attractions and arcade games. There are many places for great fish and chips and an ice cream on the promenade.
