History of the pub

The first record of the pub was in 1871. It was originally two cottages. It was originally owned by Dutton’s Brewery who were eventually acquired by Whitbreads in 1978. Today it’s now proud to be a Freehouse

Is food served?

Traditional Sunday lunches and breakfast have been served. However, now it is launching basket bar food, with homemade burgers, chicken wings in a variety of flavours including the pub’s own secret recipe, Rose and Crown sauce. Everything is locally sourced including the tasty sausages.

Is there a beer garden?

There is outside seating with a plan to extend this within a month. Great views of beautiful countryside to admire.

Do you have a darts or dominoes pool team

Snooker team and other games available to play in the pub, including darts, dominoes, chess and cards

Most popular drink?

Real ales… great variety always the best local ales as we like to support other local businesses

Most memorable moment

Doing a full refurb and opening the doors with excitement as to what me my parter Tony Bedlam and son Joe Ashton’s new life would become

Do you have entertainment lineup?

We have become a great music venue, live bands on Saturdays and often Sunday afternoons. Many people travelling from out of the area and even staying over in camper vans to enjoy the night fully. Speed quiz on Thursday nights is a big hit. With a great atmosphere it allows people to meet and make friends. Karaoke twice a month is another fun filled night with lots of enthusiastic singers

What challenges have you faced?

Rising costs are a constant battle. As a Freehouse we try to shop around as much as possible to keep cost rise to a minimum for our customers.

Best thing about running a pub

Moving into a new area is always daunting but making friends and becoming part of a fantastic community has been worth all the effort

Worst thing about running a pub

It can be very restrictive to any personal time. I try to make the nights as enjoyable for me as everyone else this is one of the reasons why music is so important as I am passionate about keeping live music alive. There is nothing beats a great local band and watching people dance and enjoy the music and talent.
