A successful property businessman from Bolton has opened a quirky bar to the public after turning his hand to running pubs.

Gino Marone from Bradshaw became the landlord of The Market Tavern, in Horwich, around nine months ago after successfully running The Pineapple Pub in Astley Bridge.

He decided to open The Cellar Bar - which is down some steps next to The Market Tavern pub – after seeing potential for it to become the No1 party venue in Bolton along with the pub.

Gino said: “We previously had functions like birthday parties and baby showers at The Cellar Bar, and we recently decided to open it to the public on a weekend.

“I wanted to try something a bit different with The Market Tavern and The Cellar Bar and turn them into more party venues.

“The pub is on the corner next to Blue Anchor Fish & Chips, and the steps go down into The Cellar Bar.”

The Cellar Bar was previously known as The Escape Lounge, but Gino felt it was more appropriate to create a name more fitting.

The bar opened to the public last weekend and will be available to book for any function every day of the week.

Since opening and making a lot of changes, Gino says that a range of people are coming in who didn’t come in before.

Gino previously worked for leading car dealerships to improve them, as well as working in an estate agents with his wife Donna where they sold the most properties in Bolton during his final year.

He then became a landlord at The Pineapple Pub in Astley Bridge with his daughter Francesca who now runs it.

He said: “I felt that there was an opportunity to go into the pub business."
