Police say they have recovered a vehicle which was stolen in Bolton last week - after the driver was seen committing a minor traffic offence.

Officers came across the car on Manchester Road, Leigh.

Police say the driver came to their attention after a minor moving traffic offence was committed.

Officers opted to follow the car and a short pursuit then took place.

Police say the driver led them onto a dead end but did not give up there.

A pursuit on foot took place but the motorist was detained a short time later.

A GMP spokesperson said: "The vehicle was found to be displaying false plates, with it in fact being a stolen van from Bolton last week.

"The driver has been arrested for theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving, fail to stop and no insurance and is currently in custody awaiting interview."
