Morrisons has teamed up with Heinz Beanz to give customers a free meal in all its cafes nationwide.

The ‘Ask for Henry’ initiative helped feed tens of thousands of people last winter and now customers can take advantage of the offer again this spring.

It first launched in October 2022 and allows anyone who ‘asks for Henry’ at a Morrisons café from April 24 to May 7 to receive a hot jacket potato topped with Heinz Beanz with salad for free.

Anyone can ask for the meals all day during the two-week period and no questions will be asked with Heinz hoping it will be of some help to those who need or want it during the cost of living crisis that continues to affect families up and down the country.

'Ask for Henry' will allow anyone a free hot meal at Morrisons

The work of Henry J. Heinz, founder of Heinz and known philanthropist, inspired the initiative.

From a young age, Henry would make food with his mother in their family kitchen, using ingredients picked from their garden, to share out to his local community.

This young boy then founded Heinz, becoming one of the great benefactors of his time, and was often quoted as saying “give all you can wisely”.

Heinz is honouring Henry’s legacy of kindness and goodwill once again with the return of the free meal.

All Morrisons Café staff have been trained and will not what people mean when they say things like “is Henry here”, “Henry”, “Can I have a Henry”, “Can I ask for Henry” or a similar phrase.

Henry is the code word that people will need to use to unlock the free meal at the supermarket.

Jojo De Noronha, President Northern Europe at Heinz, said: “Last October we launched the ‘Ask for Henry’ initiative for the first time and were blown away by the response.  And that’s why we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring back the initiative again, available from 24th April.

“We would really encourage anyone who feels they may need or want a hot, hearty meal to take us up on this offer – it’s open to absolutely everyone, and there is plenty to go around. Whilst we know it doesn’t fix the problem, we’d love to be able to help as many people as we can in this two-week period in our own small way.”

5 ways to save money on your weekly food shop

Sian Whittle, Category Director for Food Service at Morrisons, said:  “Our customers were very grateful for the ‘Ask for Henry’ initiative last year and as they continue to face financial pressures we’re pleased to be renewing our partnership with Heinz.

“For the next two weeks we’re bringing back our free jacket potato topped with Beanz offer in our cafés nationwide.”

The donation is part of Heinz’s ongoing commitment to help with food poverty, which includes a long-term partnership with children’s charity Magic Breakfast, to whom they have donated over 17 million meals since 2019.

If you’d like to claim a free hot meal, all you need to do is ‘ask for Henry’ at your nearest Morrisons café during the two-week time period and you’ll be given a free Heinz Beanz and jacket potato with salad.
