Police have closed the investigation into the brutal attack of a man by a gang armed with weapons on the streets of Farnworth a month on from the incident.

Officers were called to Avondale Road near its junction with Mount Pleasant road close to midnight on Sunday, March 26.

Police found a man had been attacked.

Blood was seen lying on the pavement for much of the next day until Bolton Council sent people to clean it up.

Crime scene investigators were on the scene for much of the following day.

Nearby residents expressed their shock at the time about what had taken place.

One said: "It is normally really quiet here we are all really in shock.

"I am in a bit of disbelief."

Another nearby resident said she was up all night as a result.

She said: "Somebody got assaulted in the middle of the night."
