Police say they are investigating after a drunken teenage boy was hurt during his arrest at the East Lancashire football derby last week.

The 17-year-old was attending the game between Blackburn Rovers and Burnley at Ewood Park on Tuesday, April 25.

Following the game, the boy, who admits he was drunk, was arrested by officers outside the ground, but during his apprehension was physically injured and left with bruising to his face.

His mother, who was not present, claims he was pinned to the floor by several officers and punched.

She said: “When leaving the ground he got into a row with an officer.

"He was then pushed to the ground and told to stop resisting arrest, which he did not [resist].

“Numerous eye-witnesses told the officers to stop as they were hurting him and he has damage to his face and eye socket as a result of being punched numerous times by one or more of the officers.

“Fans have taken to social media to show their disgust and have formally advised they will provide witness statements to support my son.

“He is unable to see out of his eye fully and is still in pain as a result.

“A formal complaint has been logged and a request for the body cam footage has been made as he is a juvenile, and so I am entitled to this.

“He was drunk and admits this but the aggression shown and assault that took place was not required and is a complete breach of power by these officers.

“He also told the police at the station and so they will have it on record.”

Images shared with the Lancashire Telegraph show bruising to the boy’s eye as well as scabbing on his face.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We have received a complaint and will be investigating the matter.”
