A driver who had been banned from the road five times led police on a high speed chase down Blackburn Road.

Police came across Aaron Javed on morning of Saturday, March 4 this year.

Bolton Crown Court heard they performed checks on the Toyota Auris which he was driving and showed it had no registered keeper.

When they attempted to pull him over he sped off and drove down Halliwell Road.

David Farley, prosecuting, said: “The police officer undertook a pursuit.

“He (Javed) hit speeds of up to 70mph in 30mph road, he overtook by swerving in and out of the side lane.

“He collided with another vehicle, it clipped off the wing mirror.

“He went through a red traffic light at 40pmh.”

The pursuit came to an end when Javed crashed the vehicle and he was arrested at the scene.

Javed, 23, appeared in court to be sentenced after admitting dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

Nick Ross, defending, said: “He wishes me on my behalf to express his remorse.

"'He said ‘What I had done is wrong'.

“Having been asked by a friend to drive his friend’s car and drop off his car, he should have said no.”

He asked the judge to consider his guilty plea and young age but said Javed accepted a prison sentence was inevitable.

The Honorary Recorder of Bolton, Judge Martin Walsh, said: “You have got an appalling record having been disqualified on at least five occasions.

“It is good fortune that nobody was injured or even killed as a result of your driving.”

He jailed him for 18 months and banned him from the roads for a period of three years and nine months.

He also ordered that Javed, from Musgrave Gardens, Bolton, must take an extended retest before being able to get behind the wheel again.
