A van was wrecked and a woman was taken to hospital after a crash in Radcliffe this morning, Thursday, which led to heavy queues for motorists.

Emergency services were sent to Water Street following a two-car collision at at around 11.30am.

Heavy damage was caused to the front of a van, which was parked at the side of the road.

Two police cars and an ambulance were in attendance and the road was partially blocked at the junction of Water Street and Spring Lane although the closure has now been lifted.

A woman was taken hospital but her injuries were not serious.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "A woman was taken to hospital, she was a passenger in a car.

"She wasn’t seriously injured."

One motorist added: “I was trying to get to the doctors and had to go the whole way around Bury because you can’t get through Radcliffe.

“It looked like police were turning all cars back around near the tram station.”
