A Bolton-born psychologist and entrepreneur has been nominated for an award thanks to his work tackling inequality and discrimination.

Lee Chambers, founder of Essentialise Workplace Wellbeing, was nominated as a positive role model for gender at the National Diversity Awards.

This came thanks to his work tackling health inequalities, workplace discrimination and providing education on topics including allyship and menopause.

Mr Chambers said: “I’m passionate and driven to both be a role model and create a sustained impact in business and in the community.

“The fact that someone has taken the time to put me forward and others have backed that up is something that makes me feel grateful and appreciative of the support that I’ve had in doing this work.

“While the awards cover every area of Great Britain, I’m hoping to bring the spotlight back to Lancashire and inspire others to pick up the torch and make a difference in their local areas.”

Founded in 2012, the concept of the National Diversity Awards arose when founder Paul Sesay and his team identified an urgent need for more positive role models to be actively promoted, with the aim to inspire a wide breadth of diverse communities all across the UK.

Last year, a record breaking 75,000 people were nominated and organisers say that they hope to deliver their grandest celebration of diversity yet this year.

Comedian and supporter of the awards, Alex Brooker, said: “If ever there was a time to unite and celebrate the best of British diversity, it is now.

“It’s so important to recognise the achievements of role models and community organisations across the UK and provide a platform to vital causes that don’t receive the praise that they deserve.”

For Mr Chambers, his nomination for the award is the second time recently he was recognised for his work.

He has also represented Lancashire businesses at 10 Downing Street, in discussion with the Prime Minister and Chancellor on business challenges and economic conditions.

Mr Chambers also attended the Great British Entrepreneur’s Reception at a closed event with a select group of British business owners and venture capitalists.

The winners of the 2023 National Diversity Awards will be announced at a ceremony at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on September 15.
