New details have been lodged on how building work on one of Bolton’s biggest new housing developments in recent years will be carried out.

The Cream Mills plan for 200 new homes in Little Lever was controversially given the go-ahead earlier this year after a public inquiry held last November.

The homes will be built off Mytham Road and Hall Lane, with developers Watson Homes now having released a construction plan for building work on the latter site.

A statement said: “This is a major regeneration project for Little Lever.

“The V-Mesh fencing which will protect the public from the canal will feature promotional material about the development and about the construction industry and opportunities for employment etc.

“The site team will engage with local schools and organisations to provide opportunities to promote the development and construction industry.”

It added: “Regular newsletters will be issued to local residents and the site team will engage with all residents to minimise disruption/inconvenience as much as possible.

“Where employment opportunities exist within the development then a Watson team and the site team will seek to provide opportunities to local residents wherever possible.”

The plan was approved by government planning inspector Nick Palmer on January 30 this year, citing a “desperate need for new housing in Bolton".

Mr Palmer said that building work could support more than 200 jobs a year, while potential residents could spend more than £4m annually, which along with other benefits would “outweigh the harm to the greenbelt".

But last year’s inquiry, held between November 22 and November 30 at Kings Church on Bury Road, Radcliffe, heard how residents were concerned about environmental destruction and the sheer scale of house building in Little Lever, which has seen hundreds of new houses build since the 1960s.

Opponents had also expressed concerns about increasing levels of traffic and that the roads could become “gridlocked".

The Hall Lane site will include 77 homes and Watson Homes say that building will take place between Monday and Friday from 7.30am to 6pm and on Saturdays from 8am to 2pm.

The company says that no deliveries will be allowed around school drop off times and pick up hours from 8am to 9am and 3pm to 3.30pm from Monday to Friday.

Watson Homes also says it hopes to minimise noise by using modern, regularly maintained equipment.

The construction plan was put before the council on Thursday, April 27 with a decision set to be made at a later date.
