A nurse dressed up as Florence Nightingale to celebrate International Nurses Day at a private hospital.

Izzy Kearney, the director of clinical services and a nurse at The Beaumont Hospital on Chorley New Road said patron Florence was "where it all started".

Izzy said: “This hospital has been serving the local community for almost 30 years, so it’s a really good day to celebrate all our nurses and our ODPs who work and operate in our operating theatres.

“I am very proud to be a nurse, it’s a very difficult job, things have changed massively the years.

“The care and the dedication stays the same.”

Izzy donned a dress in true Florence style to mimic the founder of modern nursing, and the team enjoyed cakes and sweets to commemorate the day.

Izzy said: “If it wasn’t for her, we wouldn’t have this recognition so she’s very important to us.

“It was the care that she gave to people at that time.”

Izzy has worked at the hospital for six years and said she loved the team and how they worked together to support patients.

Sam McConlough, a clinical services manager for theatres and a nurse. said she was also celebrating National Operating Department Day as well as International Nurses Day.

An ODP is trained purely in the operating theatre although they don’t only work in theatres, but predominantly work in surgery, aesthetics, scrub and recovery.

Sam said: “It’s recognition for the clinical teams that put everything into their patient care.

“They get patients safely through their journey and back home well and happy.”

Sam also recognised Florence Nightingale as a source of inspiration for the hospital nurses.

David Pearson started just two weeks ago and is looking forward to the continued progress of Beaumont Hospital.

This year also marks the hospital’s 40th birthday, which staff will celebrate to honour the special anniversary.
