A fed-up mum-of-two says she has been plagued with issues of mould and damp since moving into her Bolton at Home property around four years - now she is worried for the health of her children.

Sophie Williams from Farnworth moved into her property on Barncroft Road in 2019 and says she noticed mould and damp appearing two months after.

Bolton at Home say their contractors will visit the property and have apologised for any distress experienced.

She has become particularly concerned over the impact this may have had on her children’s health, with her son Alfie Williams-Katembe suffering from bronchitis.

She said: “It’s ruining everything.

“It is not helping my son’s bronchitis.

“I am constantly buying them beds.

“I bought a new bunkbed set in January 2023 and it is full of damp and mould.

“My biggest concern is for the health of my two children.

The Bolton News:

“Last year my son had chest infections every month for five months and it got the point where doctors were going to stop giving him the antibiotics as his body would get used to it, and not do anything.”

Sophie says that it is also making her feel really down and depressed.

She says that although she has reported it numerous times and inspectors have come out, she was only advised to keep her windows open.

Sophie said: “It’s making me feel down and depressed.

“I have the windows open, but they asked me to keep them open all day and I can’t do that.

“Leaving the windows open when I’m home hasn’t made a difference though.

The Bolton News:

“I have been trying to do this for four years and it’s like they’re not listening.

“I have spoken to lots of different people with no help.”

Sophie also says that neighbours and residents in the area have also said that they have been dealing with issues too.

Bolton at Home have apologised for the “distress” the issues have caused Sophie and her family.

They have said that they are now in the process of organising an urgent deep clean to treat the mould, as well as revisiting the situation with follow-up work to fix the cause of the problem.

Richard Hargreaves, Group Director of Property Maintenance for Bolton at Home, said: “We’re sorry for the distress these issues with damp and mould have caused Miss Williams and her family. We’re arranging for an urgent deep clean of the mould and follow-up works with a specialist contractor to fix the cause of the problem are also being booked in.”
