North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) has warned residents against swimming in open water amid the warmer weather.
The service has issued the warning to prevent people from putting their lives at risk, as although it may be tempting on a hot day, water can be unpredictable and dangerous.
An NWAS spokesperson said: “We want to remind people in the North West of the dangers of swimming in cold, open water.
“It might be very tempting this time of year and especially this half term, but you are putting your life at risk.
“Whether you are a strong swimmer or not, water can be unpredictable and dangerous.
“Even on a hot day, open water can be incredibly cold and can cause your body to go into shock, making swimming extremely difficult.”
This comes as schools in Bolton and elsewhere in Greater Manchester enjoy half term this week, with sunny weather forecasted.
