Pictures have shown the dramatic impact of a parked car sent flying into railings this morning, Saturday.

At around 9am, a parked car was hit by two cars driving at speed in Devonshire Road, Bolton, onlookers said.

Residents said two cars “shot up the road”, sending a parked car "flying" into some railings close to a residential field.

Greater Manchester Police officers were spotted in the area.

The resident – who wished to remain anonymous – said: “The car was parked on the road and two cars shot up the road and thrust it into the railings.

“The other cars have been taken by police.”

The Bolton News:

Another resident said he can often hear cars “racing” down the road and it is an “accident waiting to happen”.

He fears that if nothing changes that someone will “get killed eventually”.

He said: “It happens both ways and cars fly down the road.

“Someone is going to get killed eventually the way they race. It’s like they are seeing how fast they can go.

“You can hear it at night. I know a car is replaceable, but it’s scary.”

The resident also said he thinks the speed checker on the road "only encourages them to go faster" down the road.

The parked car will likely have to be written off due to the extent of the damage.

Residents say there were no reported injuries, but this is yet to be confirmed by police.

It is one of a number of crashes down the road in recent years.

It comes after in July 2021 a parked van was hit by a car in Chorley Old Road, near the junction with Stratford Avenue and Devonshire Road.

At the time both the van and the car were written off, according to the owners, which devastated the business that the van was essential for.

Greater Manchester Police said "no life-threatening injuries or life changing injuries" were reported and no arrests have been made.
