Motorists are being warned of a road closure in Bolton town centre after drivers were caught by surprise today.

The one-way road closure is in place on Moor Lane, Bolton, as works associated with a nearby new development get underway.

The road will remain closed for approximately two weeks whilst a sewer connection is completed, said Bolton Council.

Step Places, Bolton at Home and Bolton Council have been working on the Moor Lane scheme.

Under the plans 208 new homes, green spaces and shops will be created at the former bus station.

Last October demolition work began on the vacant shops at Cheadle Square so that the construction of the project could be begun.

The Bolton News: Development

The brownfield sites being used in the project include the former bus station, Blackhorse Street and either side of the Bolton Job Centre.

The plans were given permission by the local authority on the condition that they included more than 80 affordable homes affordable for rent, shared equity and rent to buy.

The remaining 126 homes will be a of private rented and open market sale.

And now as part of the development works the road is closed for works, but they are already proving to be a problem for motorists in the area as they swerve to turn right at the junction as they cannot go straight on.

This morning, June 6, an incident took place at the junction of Marsden Road, Spa Road, Deansgate and Moor Lane.

A member of public at the scene said drivers who are not aware of the diversion are having to turn right at the last minute.

They said: "I have seen a few cars approach the junction hoping they can go straight on but then spotting it at the last minute and they have to turn right.

"The traffic has been ok, but I would advise people go a different way."

According to the member of public, drivers were unaware of the closure until last minute forcing them to turn right.

The works are ongoing until approximately June 19.

A spokesman for Bolton Council said: "It’s a one-way closure for the sewer connection to the new development."

The closure on Moor Lane will impact the junction of Deansgate, Marsden Road and Spa Road, causing delays.
