Firefighters tackled a fire at a derelict farm building near Bolton this afternoon, Tuesday.

Crews attended the fire at a former farm off Breeze Hill Road in Atherton at around 4pm.

Firefighters from Atherton and Farnworth Fire Stations attended the incident, battling the blaze for around two hours.

Atherton watch Manager Andrew Leyland said: “It was a derelict farm building, accessed off Breeze Hill Road, off the back of the A6. We attended with Farnworth Fire Station.

“The building has been derelict for a while. We used two jets to put it out.”

Although Mr Leyland was unable to report the cause, he said there had been "some problems before" with the building that the fire service had attended.

He added: “Because of the bad state of it, there wasn’t anything worth saving, but the building is still standing.

“It was inaccessible to fire engines, so we had to use a large hose.

“We were called at 4pm and were there for about two hours.”
