Horwich Chorley New Road: Pedestrian taken to hospital after crash

The accident happened on Chorley New Road just before 10am

The road has been cordoned off ever since, with no indication of when it will open

It is taped off from its junction with De Havilland Way up to the 5 Star Hand Car Wash.

Doctors and firefighters who were passing stopped to help as other emergency services arrived.

Pedestrians were allowed to walk through the cordon on the pavement on one side, but no vehicles were being let through.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 9.50am this morning officers received reports that a cyclist had collided with a pedestrian on Chorley New Road, Bolton.

"Officers and colleagues from NWAS attended the scene, and a man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries."

A police officer at the scene told The Bolton News a "pedestrian has been knocked over".

An officer said: "The pedestrian was hit by a cyclist. They've been taken to hospital.

"They were worked on by doctors who were passing by. A fire engine happened to be passing as well."

At around noon, a police officer said they were unsure when the road would be reopened.

Watch Manager Pilkington of Horwich Fire Station said: "Someone had been knocked over. 

"We just assisted the police and NWAS with some medical care."

One resident at the scene said: "I didn't see or hear anything, I just heard a lot of sirens and the helicopter.

"There's always lots of accidents on here, especially at night time

"A cyclist and pedestrian seems strange, they usually involve a car."

Earlier today, one resident told The Bolton News: "We are expecting the road to be closed for some time."
