More than 2,000 households have been hit by a power cut in Bolton this morning.

Electricity North West, which runs power supplies across the region, first reported being aware of the issue at just before 10.50am on Wednesday June 5.

The company confirmed that a total of 2,216 households had been affected but moved to assure the public that their engineers were working on a solution.

An Electricity North West statement said: “We are aware of a fault in Bolton affecting 2216 customers.

“Our engineers are on their way to investigate the cause.”

It added: “If you require any additional support, please call on 105.”

The company also advised that people in Bolton can get in touch with them via direct messaging on Twitter with their full address and best contact number.

Planned power cuts are often held all across the country to allow engineers to carry out maintenance works on power cables and substations.

But unplanned cuts can also occur at times for a variety of reasons including faults in the system or if repairs need to be carried out.

In most cases planned power cuts do not last for long while unplanned power cuts tend to be dealt with quickly by engineers.
