A YOUNG Lancashire cricketer has got to play a part in the Ashes alongside the likes of Ben Stokes, Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad.
Matty Hurst, who plays his club cricket for Leigh CC, after starting out at Newton le Willows CC, was brought on as a sub fielder on the first day of the Ashes match between England and Australia at Emirates Old Trafford.
Hurst, 19, signed professional terms with Lancashire in 2022 after featuring for the county's Second XI, notching up a century in the Second XI Championship win away at Leicestershire last summer
He also played in England U19s' series win against Sri Lanka and struck a century in the second Test at Derby.
The wicketkeeper / batter, who hails from Billinge and now lives in Ashton, impressed during his time on the field making a superb stop on the boundary to prevent a four from Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne.
Hurst, who attended Byrchall High and Winstanley College, played Under-14s cricket for Lancashire before progressing through the age-groups to the Academy and into the second-team, making his debut for the latter in 2020.
