The new landord of a Bolton pub welcomed in a special guest for the first meal served under his stewardship.

Adam Griffiths has been in charge of The Hulton Arms for four weeks.

During this time he has been serving drinks, welcoming in musicians and hosting quizzes.

But now he is moving to serving homemade food seven days a week.

And to mark the launch of the new menu, he invited a special guest to enjoy fish and chips followed by desert.

Muriel Davies, who is a 101-year-old who has been raising funds for the RNLI for 50 years.

She collects money from the collection box at the pub and after they got talking he decided she would be the first person to enjoy a meal at the pub.

Mrs Davies enjoyed fish and chips with mushy peas followed by a combination of two deserts - a  biscoff cheesecake and a spongecake.

She said afterwards: "It was lovely.

"I did not know what to expect, the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

"It was very nice to be asked to go for the charity I work for, the RNLI.

"I think it is a great charity because they save lives in water.

"Other charities saves lives but they save lives in water."

Mr Griffiths said: "She came in to get the collection and we got talking.

"She was telling me she is 101, it is amazing how sprightly she is.

"I think the staff tell her when the box is full and she comes to get it."

Mr Griffiths also runs The Duke of Wellington in Westhoughton and The White Bull in Chorley.

He previously ran The Red Lion, which is near The Hulton Arms, for 22 years.

He said: "It is already a good pub but we are looking to put on food seven days a week from noon to 7pm.

"We are doing two for £10 on a chippy tea  on Friday, people can get two out of fish and chips, rag pugging, sause of pices with sides such as curry or gravy.

"All our food is homemade."
