A Bolton MP is campaigning to keep a "key part" of the "Breightment community" open after a shock announcement that the store on Bury Road could be closed.

The announcement has led to mixed reactions from residents and shoppers who are being asked to share their views on the potential closure.

The Conservative MP for Bolton North East, Mark Logan, said he was disappointed to hear the news and is urging Morrisons to reconsider their plans.

He said: “As a Morrisons customer I am disappointed to see that they are proposing to close this important lifeline to many in our community.

"I am calling on Morrisons to do all they can to keep this provision open to residents in Breightmet."

The MP has set up a short survey for shoppers and residents to share their views, adding that he is on "standby" for those impacted by the announcement.

Bosses at the Morrisons supermarket chain told The Bolton News the decision has been a difficult one to make.

The store, which is next door to Home Bargains, is being sold by the supermarket chain, who said they “do not believe [the store’s] performance is sustainable”.
