A nursery has turnaround its fortunes to be rated good.

St Paul’s Peel Playgroup based at St Paul’s Peel Church Hall in Little Hulton was inspected by Ofsted on July 4 and the nursery has now been rated good overall, a marked improvement from its last grade of inadequate.

The inspection report states the playgroup is good for the quality of education, for behaviour and attitudes, for personal development and for leadership and management.

Lead inspector Lois Hulley said the ‘provision is good’ and ‘leaders have made significant improvements to the quality of the care and education since the last inspection’.

The inspection report states: “The cheerful noise of singing, talking and playing can be heard throughout the playgroup.

“Children demonstrate confidence because staff provide a consistent routine.

“Staff now have high expectations for children's behaviour and contributions.

“Children are kept safe because leaders and staff understand both their roles and the procedures for protecting children.

“Children learn a range of knowledge, skills, and behaviours.

“The curriculum is varied and individualised so that children achieve well.”

The inspection report also stated what the early years setting has done well.

It states: “Leaders have embraced external support to help them make improvements to the playgroup.

“The curriculum is now well designed to meet the needs of all the children who attend.

“Leaders have embraced external support to help them make improvements to the playgroup.

“The curriculum is now well designed to meet the needs of all the children who attend.

“Staff now meet regularly to reflect on their practice and identify areas for improvement.”

Within the report it also states that ‘parents’ comment that they appreciate the warm and friendly welcome they receive from staff’.

The inspection report also includes a way the playgroup can improve.

The report states: “The provider should raise the quality of professional development further to build practitioners' knowledge of teaching and learning so that children always benefit from the ambitious curriculum.”

A spokesperson for St Paul's Peel Playgroup said: “The playgroup team are really pleased with our overall grading of good.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and volunteers for all of their hard work, and the parents and carers for the support they have given us.”

The playgroup is open each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 9am to 1pm, during term time only.
