Two friends have found their Bolton ‘heroes’ who helped them get home from a day trip in Dublin.

Cheryl Tomlinson and Sophie Pritchard went to Dublin from Liverpool to celebrate Sophie’s 27th birthday on August 9.

But the journey back saw them almost miss their flight home as the 15-minute coach ride turned into over an hour’s ride with chaos along the way.

After launching an appeal to help find the two Bolton boys that helped them get home, the power of the internet has reached Kieran Antoni and Kelsey Burke, the heroes of the trip from Farnworth and Breightmet.

Kieran said: “Me and Kelsey were in Ireland for a day trip, a place we’ve been before, we both helped Cheryl and Sophie as we believed it was the right thing to do.

“Something we’d like to happen to us if we ever got stuck abroad or needed genuine help.”

Cheryl revealed the coach driver got lost on many occasions, even stopping to ask for directions, the door getting jammed and stopping to count passengers.

Cheryl and Sophie were sure they’d miss their flight at 4.30pm, but Kieran and Kelsey escorted the friends to the terminal, directing them to where they needed to be and even getting them to the front of security.

Cheryl said: “We were shocked that we found them as knew it was a long shot but happy to have been able to thank them, the laughter and banter in the group chat made it worthwhile.

“It has been a very funny journey from start to finish, from leaving them at the airport to finding them on social media.”

The original story from The Bolton News was shared hundreds of times in Liverpool and Bolton and Kieran saw it when looking at the website and realising it was for them.

He said: “I didn’t see the post till late  when Kels rang me about 11pm laughing saying we’re in the news, I had no clue what he was on about till he sent me the article, our initial reaction was shock and laughter as we both felt what we did wasn’t anything anyone else wouldn’t do.”

The group are now friends and are planning a night out and another trip to Dublin.
