Bolton residents are welcome at a number of attractions across the borough in a celebration of its culture.

The Heritage Open Days allow access to a range of experiences with a theme of 'Creativity Unwrapped'.

From September 8 all residents are welcome at a number of attractions over the course of around 10 days.

Liam Montgomery, the marketing manager for the festival, said: "We are excited to put the spotlight on the people and the places which give England’s heritage the 'X-Factor' and which inspire festivalgoers to engage with thousands of years of creativity."

A chance to look around the church in the town centre with a history of around 1200 years, including a tour of the tower.

Horwich Masonic Hall, Ridgmont House, Horwich, BL6 6RF

September 9 only. No reservation needed.

An insight into The Freemasons at their home in Ridgmont House. There are members of the organisation to answer questions about The Freemasons and members of staff to answer questions about the use of Ridgmont Hall as a venue for weddings.

Horwich Parish Church, Church Street, Horwich, BL6 6AA

September 9 only. No reservation needed.

A chance to look around the church built in the 1800s with a display by Horwich Heritage, including a tour of the tower.

Salford Road Solar Farm, Salford Road, Bolton, BL5 1DG

September 11 only. Contact recycle4gm@greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk for a reservation.

A tour of the solar farm which is one of the largest of its type in the North West. The Recycle for Greater Manchester (R4GM) team explain the science behind how it works and the significance behind why it is next to the Salford Road Recycling Centre.

Smithills Hall, Smithills Dean Road, Bolton, BL1 7NP

September 13 only. No reservation needed.

A tour of hall which is one of the oldest of its type in the North West. It is Grade I listed for the splendour of its interior and its exterior as well as its gardens and its grounds.
