Cheekily-named cottage in Brinscall becomes viral sensation

The lovely cottage has been listed for rent on Facebook Marketplace by Robin Bamford, and while it has been carefully refurbished to a high standard while maintaining a number of period features, it is its name and location that has caught the attention of potential renters.

The property is nicknamed ‘Erection Cottage’ and is comically situated in Dick Lane, Brinscall, which has raised more than a few eyebrows.

The two bed cottage comes unfurnished and with walk-in wardrobe and an asking price of £850 per calendar month, and Mr Bamford said he has been flooded with enquiries.

In his listing, Mr Bamford said: “Beautiful iconic ‘Erection Cottage’ (Dick Lane, Brinscall) goes up for rent from October 1.

“To view this gorgeous world famous, fully refurbished dream home, please contact me to arrange an immediate viewing.”

Speaking to a national newspaper, he added: “It has just gone completely crazy. The name is ribald humour, but there have been no complaints.

“People with a sense of humour obviously want to live here and everyone in the village is happy with the name.”

The house is believed to have had the nickname for more than a century.

Mr Bamford added: “Everyone in the village knows it as Erection Cottage.

“During the pandemic lots of people were coming by to have their photo taken alongside the name and the name of the road. The road sign Dick Lane is opposite the cottage.

“It became something of a tourist attraction and people were amused by it. No one has complained. It’s a bit cheeky, but no harm.”
