A car was seized by police after they discovered it had been driven on false plates.

Officers notice the white Ford while on patrol in Bolton over the course of Tuesday night.

They eventually found the car abandoned on Withins Drive in the Breightmet area.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “This vehicle made off from the Bolton North Neighbourhood Team last night.

“It has been located on Withins Drive in Breightmet this evening and was found to be on false plates.

“It has now been seized so we can establish its true identity.”

An image from the scene supplied by police shows the car stopped on Withins Drive late at night with a police car nearby.

Cars being driven on false plates have frequently been seized by police in recent months across the Bolton area and further afield in Greater Manchester.

Drug and drink drivers have also been frequently stopped as have suspected stolen cars.

Officers have urged anyone with any concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour on the roads or otherwise in their communities to get in touch by calling 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.

Alternatively, witnesses can also call independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
