A young woman from Bolton will finally be coming home after a horror crash left her in a coma during an adventure of a lifetime in Cyprus.

Ellie Horrocks, 22, from Westhoughton was involved in a major accident on June 26, where she was then taken to the intensive care unit at Nicosia Hospital.

Following a trip on a buggy to see the sunset, Ellie suffered a serious head injury, and a fractured spinal cord and collarbone.

After returning to the UK in July her mum Leanne Horrocks shared her joy over Ellie returning home, describing Ellie as a 'true miracle'.

Her mum says it has been 'heartbreaking' to see her daughter like that, but that she continues to ‘blow’ them away with the progress she is making.

Leanne said: “After what seems like an absolute lifetime, but only 10 and a half weeks, my baby is finally coming home.

“Being diagnosed with a brain injury at such a young age is heartbreaking but her progress has blown us all away.

“She has taken everything in her stride and is a true miracle.

“An emotional roller coaster for us all but she has been so strong and determined with her recovery.”

The Bolton News:

Leanne previously set up a GoFundMe in a desperate bid to bring her daughter home to take her to a specialist neurology hospital in the UK.

And through people’s generosity, the family managed to raise more than £70k, which helped bring Ellie home.

Leanne says that there is “still lots of hard work to be put in with physio and occupational therapy”, but that thanks to everyone’s generosity, they are able to fund these privately without being on a waiting list.

She added: “The staff at Salford Royal have been fantastic and we will be forever grateful to them.

“Thank you once again to everybody who shared and donated to enable us to get Ellie home as quick as we could.

“Ellie was totally overwhelmed when I explained what we needed to do, and she is so thankful to everyone.

“Ellie Horrocks you are my absolute world, and I couldn’t be any more prouder of you.”

The discharge procedures are now in place, and when Ellie can return home is dependent on how long this takes.
