Residents were left in shock last week after seeing a naked cyclist riding past.

Following a meal at a pub, Stuart Heaton was driving back to his Smithills home at around 2.45pm on Wednesday, September 6 when he came across an unusual sight.

Cycling along the A58, near to Moss Bank Park, was a man cycling wearing nothing but a gardening hat and some sunglasses.

Drivers tooted their horns and passers-by laughed as he rode along.

Mr Heaton said: "My wife pointed him out as we went past him on the A58 close to Moss Bank Park.

"We had been to the Victoria Inn for lunch and were on our way back home and that's when we saw him.

"I am a member of a golfing group based in Bolton and one of the other members had seen him on the A6.

"Maybe it's a charity run, or just a bit of amusement."

He added: "We found it highly amusing and so did all the other cars, tooting their horns at him and wooing at him as they drove past.

"It reminds me of a Blackadder sketch where they are talking about the last turkey in the shop.

"It brightened our day."
