A Bolton man who has been supporting Ukrainian guests before and since the war began will be travelling to the war torn country to offer his support.

Yaroslaw Tymchyshyn, chair of the Bolton Branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain, will be travelling for two weeks from October 28 to help with the humanitarian effort as well as hoping to capture imagery to remind people of the war.

Yaroslaw said: “I have been involved with Tim Marsden from Huddersfield who delivers vital humanitarian aid to Ukraine and Ken Harvey, the owner of Harvey Transport of Kearsley, for a couple of months now and both of them have been taking items over to Ukraine.

“Last Thursday, Ken came to our centre to meet myself and a colleague and he turned around and said he was going to Ukraine and within a nano-second I said 'I’m coming with you'.

“One of the reasons I really want to do this is to raise the profile of what is happening over there because I think it has now got to the stage where the war is no longer at the forefront of people’s minds.

“And it is still an ongoing problem and an ongoing situation, so I want to go over there to take pictures and videos to show people what is actually going on over there.

“I feel excited to be going over and I of course feel a bit of trepidation because only recently I read that a British aid worker was killed and there is always a risk going into what is effectively a war zone.

"But with that being said I am excited to go because I want to see the work that people are doing to alleviate the suffering that is going on over there.”

Yaroslaw will also be going to help Tim and Ken translate the language at various health centres so the best can be done to help people.

The Bolton branch is working closely with Tim Marsden from Huddersfield to deliver vital humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Tim has made a number of trips delivering medical equipment and supplies to the point of delivery including taking supplies to hospitals and maternity units.

And Yaroslaw is asking for the public’s help to donate items which they can take with them to Ukraine to help in the war efforts.

Items needed are flat pack boxes (500m x 600mm), aqua boxes and first aid boxes.

Each aqua box can deliver up to 10,000 litres of clean water.

If anyone, company, or individual would like to donate items they can contact Yaroslaw on 07914 021511.
