The bomb squad were called after a suspected World War II bomb shell was found.
Emergency services put in place a cordon near a trading estate after the find at 9.30am in Little Hulton.
Police were called at 9.30am this morning on Lester Road.
Police officers and bomb disposal experts were at the scene to assess the item and its potential risk.
Officers confirmed there is no significant risk.
A spokesman for police said: “Officers were called just before 9.30am this morning (Tuesday 19 September) to a report of a WW2 shell found on Lester Road, Worsley.
“Officers attended and a suspected historic WW2 shell was found on arrival.
“EOD are currently assessing the item.
“A current 50m cordon is in place to ensure the safety of the public and there is believed to be no wider risk to the community.”
Nobody has been injured in the incident but the public are advised to keep away from the area as emergency services deal with it.
