Organisers have hailed the first Festival of Horwich as a success.

Thousands attended Horwich RMI on Ramsbottom Road on Saturday to enjoy music, games, food and drink as residents of the area came together.

The organisers aimed to bring people together and showcase all that the town has to offer its residents and all the groups that work in the area.

Earlier in the day there were inflatables for youngsters to enjoy and later on musical acts took to the stage to keep people entertained.

Kat Grant, the deputy organiser, said: “We had to wait until after the May elections as we did not know if there was still the political will to carry it out.

“We have had to work to keep it in budget.

“We have had lots of local people help us out and we have had to negotiate prices to stay in budget.

“The day has been amazing.

“I think there has probably been about 6,000 people here.

“People from the local area have been able to see what it has to offer.

“We are hoping to do it again, we have a three to five year programme running it every year.”

Gordon Campbell, a councillor on Horwich Town Council, also was also involved in organising the event.

He said: “It has been amazing.

“We have seen everybody walk through, there has been no charge on the door, rich or poor it is a community event.

“It is a one day event and it is the first of many.

“It is about bringing people together.”

One person to enjoy the event was Alison Creed.

The 57-year-old retired woman said: “It has been brilliant.

“It is the first time we have had the festival and it has brought the community together and everyone has had a good time.

“Fortunately the weather has been OK, I would definitely come back.”
