Smithills School to showcase Grease, The Musical this autumn

Smithills School will be bringing Grease, The Musical to the school as a revised written musical, provided through Theatrical Rights Worldwide, ensuring the context is suitable for young people.

Pupils from Smithills School have been busy rehearsing and learning the famous songs, choreography and lines and attend regularly during lunchtimes and after school to make sure the production will be a success.

Pupils who don’t want to take to the stage are working in the technical side of theatre, undertaking a role in set design, costume, props, and lighting.

Rowan, a Year 10 production pupil said: “I am really excited to be part of the school production again, it gives me the opportunity to explore and produce lighting designs and effects for a production, this will be my fourth year being part of this and being a lighting designer is something that I want to do as a career.”

Nicholas, who plays Danny in Grease is also very excited to be taking the leading role.

He said: “I enjoy doing Grease because it helps develop my vocal skills and my acting skills which further supports my confidence.”

Throughout the musical, pupils go on a journey of singing and dancing their way through nostalgic scenes such as the pyjama party, the prom, the burger palace, and the drive-in movie.

Mr Milthorpe, head of faculty for performing arts and PE said: “We are very excited once again to presenting our annual school production to the local community and primary schools, our pupils consistently demonstrate the school values of excellence, independence and community throughout the preparation and performance, on behalf of the department we are always proud of what our pupils can do and achieve.”

The production takes place from Monday, November 13 to Wednesday, November 15 at 7pm in the school main hall, tickets are £3 or four tickets for £10 and can be purchased by calling the school office on 01204 842382.
