UPDATE: Police have now confirmed they were on the scene.
A man was reportedly “tasered” this morning, Saturday, after causing disturbances at several businesses.
According to eyewitnesses, the man was running down Market Street on Westhoughton “with the delusion that someone was out to kill him” at around 8.30am.
Two police cars and an ambulance were seen and the man, thought to be under the influence of drugs, was reportedly “tasered” before being taken away in a police car.
Cllr David Wilkinson, of Westhoughton South, said: “It’s very disturbing for people to see this kind of thing and its very disturbing when you see the impact of what drugs can do to people.
“Luckily it doesn’t look like he was carrying anything but it really shows the danger of this kind of thing.”
He added: “Luckily the police were on the scene very quickly and the fact he was tasered shows how serious it was.
“But the main thing is it looks like no one was injured or impacted too much either physically or mentally.”
The man was reportedly seen going into several businesses before being taken away by the police.
Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.
