Trains to and from Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport are currently cancelled or delayed after a train broke down.
This is affecting people travelling from Bolton train station.
The line has reopened but disruption is expected until 10am at the earliest.
Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled, delayed or diverted via Stockport.
All passengers are advised to check travel times and services before travelling via the Nothern app or website.
Those with train tickets will be able to use these on other services with no extra charge.
Nothern said on Twitter: "There is a broken down train between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport and the line is blocked.
"Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled, delayed or diverted via Stockport."
Recently, Northern announced it would be introducing British Sign Language announcements on some services.
Passengers will first see the new BSL visuals on trains between Manchester Victoria and Leeds to interpret information such as station announcements.
Census data in 2021 showed that in addition to spoken languages, BSL was the main language of 22,000 people.
Northern is looking for partners – charities, organisations or experts who could help provide sign language interpreters for the project.
