Rumours a former bar could become a Wetherspoons have been dismissed by the company.

A unit next to the Harvester and Premier Inn in Middlebrook, Horwich, is currently vacant.

A sign outside it states that it is a restaurant to let with 4,7779 sq ft of space available.

Staff at the nearby businesses said they had not heard anything about any plans for the former bar and restaurant.

There had been rumours that the site would be a Wetherspoons however a spokesperson for the pub chain confirmed they had no plans to create a new outlet in Middlebrook.

The property was previously Missoula, which opened its doors in 2017 after £250,000 investment.

Prior to this it was the Scotts Bar.

However there are no ongoing planning or licencing applications relating to the site.

The surrounding area has welcomed a large number of new eateries in recent months.

Earlier this month a Greek restaurant opened its doors there.

Marianna and husband Andreas Tsourdiou's business began in Chorley Market and later they purchased a van which allowed them to travel to music festivals across the UK.

They have now set up at the retail park.

Five Guys has also opened up in Middlebrook this month.

Bolton company Carrs Pasties opened its fourth outlet in the spot in July this year.

They held an opening day when a ribbon was cut to mark a new step for the company.

Other chains present at the retail park include YO! Sushi, Bella Italia, Nando’s, Pizza Hut and TGI Fridays.

However Poundland has recently  closed its branch in Middlebrook and Wilko closed its site there when the store went into administration.
