Artwork will form the centrepiece of a new housing estate.

Under the scheme a total of 59 new homes  will be built on land once occupied by Bolton Wanderers FC’s training ground at Academy Way in Lostock.

Developers Bellway Homes have unveiled further details about the development including 'artworks' on the site.

A planning document stated: “It is proposed that a pair of artworks be installed within the strip of land along the northern edge of the site.

“These would help to animate this northern boundary and have been positioned as landmark features to coincide with the highway junctions that serve the southern access loop.”

It added: “A public artwork in this location could use a theme that links back to the local history of the area, such as the land's association with the Lostock Hall Fold Manorial Complex, or it could take reference from nearby past industry, such as the cotton mill or aircraft propeller works.”

The main development was approved at a meeting of Bolton Council’s planning committee in July last year.

The committee members heard about concerns over pressures on parking and public services in the area but also about the new jobs and homes the development was expected to create.

They ultimately decided to delegate the scheme to the authority’s director of place for approval after hearing how it was expected to create new jobs as well as the homes.

With the development now having been approved, the scheme will now be made up of a total of 22 detached houses, 28 semi-detached and nine mews/terraced houses.

This will included nine two-bedroom houses which the developers and council have deemed to be “affordable.”

Building work will take place along with a through road linking the development to Bolton Wanderers Football Academy.

The latest plans for the conditions on the development were put before Bolton Council on Tuesday October 24.

The authority will then aim to decide whether or not to approve these conditions by Tuesday December 19 this year.

A show home is now expected to open in September 2024.
