VIEWERS tuning into Traces may find themselves doing a double-take as they spot some familiar places.

Series 2 is now showing on Drama, UKTV Play with TV critics saying it’s a must see.

The drama is set in Dundee, the filming was done right here in Bolton, once again giving the town a national showcase on prime time television.

The crime thriller is produced by Manchester-based RED Production and based on an original idea by best-selling crime writer Val McDermid.

Filming took in Victoria Square, Nelson Square, Le Mans Crescent, including the old Magistrates building, including the old police cells.

Filming of one of the crucial scenes of the series caused drama and excitement in Bolton town centre in May.

Speaking to Creative England, which facilitates filming, Assistant Location Manager, Laura Power said at the time:” We found some fantastic places, especially in Bolton, where we used an old retail space and then also council buildings that were opposite each other."

The drama is now showing.

A spokesman for RED Production Company, who are making the series, have previously described Bolton as a "perfect base".

The company said: "Bolton has such a wonderful range of architecture, stone and age of buildings that (amongst the warm welcome from the community) is what makes it a perfect base for locations for a series."
