Fifteen community groups in Bolton and the town's surrounding areas are celebrating after being given a cash boost.

The organisations have been given a share of £26,391,83 through the Co-op’s Local Community Fund to help them with projects.

Bolton Lads and Girls Club, Westhoughton Community Assist Service and Bolton Middlebrook Leisure Trust are among those who have been handed funds.

The funding boost comes at a welcome time a research from more than 3,000 UK community causes shows 84 per cent of such groups have seen a jump in demand for their services due to the cost of living crisis.

Director of community and member participation at Co-op, Rebecca Birkbeck, said: “We’re really proud of our Local Community Fund and the impact it’s had supporting thousands of local causes across the UK.

"These groups deliver incredible grassroot projects, enabling them to provide important services, support and activities for their diverse communities.”
