A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire at a home in Great Lever.

Police and fire crews from Bolton Central and Farnworth arrived on Beechwood Street, following reports of a fire in a bedroom of a ground floor flat at around 2.15am on Tuesday.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and wore breathing apparatus to make the scene safe.

No one is reported to have been injured.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “A male has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life at Beechwood Street.”

Residents in the area say that although they did not see the fire, they saw and heard emergency services in the early hours.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At just after 2.15am this morning three fire engines from Bolton Central and Farnworth fire stations attended a fire in a bedroom of a ground floor flat on Beechwood Street, Bolton.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe.

“Crews were in attendance for around one hour and 30 minutes.”
