Bolton is set to receive more than £600,000 extra funding to help support “those most in need” over the winter.
This comes after the government announced that the council will get a total of £652,199 extra funding for adult social care.
The Department for Health and Social Care says that it has chosen authorities like Bolton that are under substantial pressure for extra funding.
Bolton West MP Chris Green said: “I am pleased that the government has recognised the pressure on adult social care and is doing everything it can to support Bolton Council to deliver for those most in need.”
The extra funding means that in total the government support for adult social care in Bolton will come to £8,106,944 this year.
This is made up of £2,085,475 worth of discharge funding with £5,369,271 market sustainability and improvement funding.
The extra £652,199 announced this week comes under the local authority and emergency care support fund.
The government says that this has been awarded in recognition of the extra support needed for older and vulnerable people.
It says it hopes the council will use the money to boost social care provision, strengthening admissions avoidance services and boosting hospital discharge rates this winter.
The funding is also meant to help reduce waiting times for people needing services and to help recruit more staff and keep them with the council.

A Department of Health and Social Care statement said: “The purpose of this fund is to enable local authorities to fund additional interventions or services which support urgent and emergency care performance and resilience over the 2023 to 2024 winter period, whether by helping prevent avoidable admissions to hospital or by reducing discharge delays.”
But the funding boost comes ahead of a tough time for the council, which announced earlier this week that it would consult the public before making £9.1million worth of cuts next year.
According to a report but before the authority, plans for slashing budgets which include dimming streetlights and only collecting paper and cardboard waste every four weeks.
Other cuts proposed include reviewing “alternative delivery” of two of the 10 libraries maintained by the council around Bolton.
