A chippy has undergone a £25,000 transformation in a bid to make it the 'plaice' to be for the best fish and chips in town.

Whiteside's Stephen Pollitt, has invested the money into renovating the chip shop to ensure it becomes a five-star venue.

The Halliwell Road chippy has had all new equipment installed - and even invested in branded umbrellas to keep customers dry on busy days.

Manager at the shop, Rachel Worsley, said: “We often get queues of people going outside for our chips so having these for people to use just adds that extra touch.

“The improvements to the kitchen are incredible too, it is much nicer to work in”.

Stephen, who has owned the shop since January, said that they had recently been given a two-star rating, but this is something they quickly hope to rectify.

He said: “The inspector came three days before we had fully finished the renovations.

“I still needed to install various health and safety boxes in the kitchen as well as an extra sink, so we ended up with a lower rating than we deserve.

“We have explained the situation to Bolton Council, and they hope to have another inspector coming out to us soon.

“Now, with all the work in the kitchens complete, we are aiming for five stars”.

Speaking about the shock rating, Rachel added: “I was quite upset actually because we had a few people making comments on Facebook about us getting a two-star.

“People were saying all kinds of things but didn’t realise it was because we were mid renovations, so it wasn’t nice to see”.

Despite spending around £25,000 on improving the shop, Stephen added that he is not finished yet and hopes to eventually make some more floor improvements to the front of the business.
